RECAP: October Networking Event

The joint Octo"beer"fest event that was held with the BNSME at Fying Bison Brewing Company on October 19th was a huge success with nearly 100 thirsty marketing and advertising types in attendance.

Tours of Buffalo's only distributing brewing company, great sausages from Scharf's, outstanding beers and plenty of networking made for a memorable event.

RECAP: Portfolio Camp Part 1: The Seminar

Thanks to a great panel of professionals, including Mark Brickey of Hero Design, Kim Penetheros and Dave Riley of The Martin Group, and Shelly Bronson of French Press, the 2009 Portfolio Seminar was a great success. 20 local students attended the event, and left with a boatload of great tips, and a leg (or two) up on the competition. Thanks to all, and students and pros, mark your calendars for Part 2: The Portfolio Review on May 8th!

RECAP: Career Day 2009

The Advertising Club of Buffalo & PRSA Buffalo Niagara joined forces on Friday, November 6th at the Larkin Building for the Second Annual Career Day. The event was created as a forum  to help area college students get their chance to network with some of Western New York's top communications employers.  Local account service reps, creative designers and public relations professionals were on hand for communications industry panel discussions, skill sessions and networking.

The event schedule included sessions on resume preparation and interview skills as well as a brainstorming discussion on diverse careers in the communications industry.  Panel discussions provided student attendees with insights about the importance of networking and skill development.  In one example, a student attendee from the 2008 kickoff Career Day returned this year as a panelist in the workforce, offering relatable suggestions to students about successfully entering today's job market.
