The Advertising Club of Buffalo is pleased to extend this special offer to full-time two- and four-year WNY-area college students interested in a career in the advertising, graphic design or related industries:

In the summer of 2000, Professional Communicators of WNY and the Art Directors/Communicators of Buffalo joined forces to form one, new dynamic organization: Brainstorm. Now renamed the Advertising Club of Buffalo, it is the premier advertising and marketing organization in WNY. We will provide you with valuable resources, assistance and opportunities that will help you while you’re in school and as you begin your career. Just look at what we offer:

  • Exposure to area professionals in the fields of copywriting, graphic design, illustration, photography, web and interactive and much more;
  • Special student prices for events hosted by the Ad Club;
  • A subscription to the club's bi-monthly newsletter, which includes jobs available, student information and so much more;
  • Eligibility to enter our annual awards competition;
  • Eligibility for scholarships awarded annually by Brainstorm;
  • Participation in the annual two-part Student Portfolio Program;
  • Internships, job interviews, professional guidance.

Don Nichols Scholarship

Don Nichols began teaching at the Albright Art School, founded its Graphic Design program in 1950 and brought it to UB where, until his death in July 1987, he was the program’s head and an extraordinarily dedicated teacher.

Undergraduate students attending Western New York two- and four-year colleges for design, writing, communications, illustration, photography or fine arts are eligible to receive prizes in the Student Communication Competition for the Don Nichols Scholarship.

Prizes include:

  • First Prize: $1,000
  • Second Prize: $500
  • Third Prize: $300

Up to 10 honorable mention certificates may be awarded.

All winning entries will be exhibited at the Annual Western New York Awards For Creative Excellence and featured in an upcoming issue of The Creative Communicator.

Dennis Domkowski Memorial Scholarship Fund

Dennis Domkowski was a talented graphic designer and agency principal who passed away from cancer in 1992. Dennis was a graduate of UB. We honor his memory each year by awarding scholarships to worthy students in the areas of marketing communications, advertising or related concentrations.Each year, at our spring portfolio review, two students are selected by the attending professionals to receive a $500 scholarship as part of the Dennis Domkowski Memorial Scholarship Fund. A third scholarship is awarded to a UB student chosen by the UB Department of Art.
